Roadworthy your car
If you are planning on selling your car, you need to have a valid roadworthy test. This test proves that your vehicle is in good running order and is required for us to process an exchange of ownership. A well-maintained car is safer on the road and is more fuel-efficient. It is also cheaper to keep it in good running order than to fix problems only once they arise.
Roadworthy testing centres
Drivers can get a roadworthy certificate from a number of private and public vehicle testing stations (VTS). Make sure that you fix all known problems with the car before you bring it in for a roadworthy test. If not, your car will fail the roadworthy test and you will need to redo the test until it is roadworthy.

Getting your car ready for a roadworthy test
Badly maintained vehicles can increase fuel usage by as much as 50%, and generally don’t work as well as those that are well maintained. Here are some tips on how to maintain your car’s condition to ensure it is always safe on our roads:
- Keep your car well serviced to make sure that it performs at its best.
- Check your oil and water levels regularly.
- Check that there are no holes in the exhaust.
- Check that your tyres aren’t worn thin, or underinflated – these can cause accidents.
